Rockin

What else can you say? This place is rockin. Good fishing again today. Started out this morning fishing on birds. Started the day with a tripple, then a double, before you know it I think we had 10 before 9am. The bonitas pushed the sails out and we began to get a good trolling bite. We ended up catching 26 today, and if we would have tried to catch a ton we could have. The wind started to pick up this afternoon and may make tomorrow a blow day. Part of you wants to sleep in and relax and catch up on some things, then part of you says lets go make some money. What ever happens it is going to be a great day. If we do fish it is going to be too rough for the 2 hour boat ride up north. Thats it for today.

Bueno Pesca

Good fishing, good weather and good people. Started out this morning fishing on the birds. Caught 11 around the birds and did not have the best percentage. From there we began trolling. Fin called me up on the bridge and said troll further north where none of the other boats had been yet. He went down below and I began looking for signs of life. I had seen some free jumpers (fish that are not hooked) up above me. I got the mark on the bottom machine and told the guys to watch their stuff. Before you know it we have a double on. We catch them and then catch a single, then a double, etc... I guess Fin decided to take a nap and let me run the boat for several hours. We ended up catching 10 with me at the helm, then I got fired after a slow period with no bites. We saw several huge devil rays today. The end of the day bite turned on and we ended the day with 31, and we left them chewing. Hopefully they will be there again tomorrow. I think this is the start of some great fishing. Joe and those guys have the day off tomorrow. Paul Legnard, Will Huntley and his wife will be fishing with us tomorrow. I just tried to put some pictures up and it is not letting me for some reason. I may have to walk to the end of the dock to upload them where I have a better signal.

Mucho Norte, Mucho Pez Vela

When we left this morning Arch and Jeff had already left. They had not found the fish in the same place they were yesterday. We ran way up around the corner and set out. It was us, the Obsession, the Swordfish, and the Smoker. I guess if you are going to be fishing somewhere fishing around those guys is not bad. We had no bites of any kind for the first couple of hours. We were fishing green water. Fin had just started to ask me if we should run futher when we had one on a flat line and one on a rigger bait. That was the start of a great day. From that point on when they swam in there they came in like a wolf pack. They rarley came to a bait, they constantly came yo my teasers, and dredges. All day I would crank up my dredges when we got a fish in the spread. I would get them about 20ft. behind the boat in real clean water there it is easy so see them and there would be 2 or 3 right behind it. They were real funny acting and you would have to crank a bait all the way up to the boat and prospect it to get a bite. That continued all day. When we left to go home we found a place of birds so we stopped to catch a few more. We ended the day with 28, and a ton of sancocho's. Sancocho means swing and a miss in spanish. We got back to the dock well after dark. Tony, the bait man was waiting for me with some hand picked fresh ballyhoo. I got 120 baits that i had to clean and pack up, respool a reel, and fuel up. When the smoke cleared I was finishing my day around 8:30. Very long day. Hopefully those fish will be there again tomorrow and my anglers will bring their A game. Hopefully we are starting to find our rythm, and get in a groove. I feel that I am personally srarting to get into a groove. The ocean was calm today, and hopefully will be nice again tommorow before it starts getting rough again for Fri, and Sat. More later.

Slow Fishing

Joe Perez arrived and was ready to roll this morning. We did not find as good of fishing as some of the other boats. We caught 8 out of 12 sailfish. The weather was a little snottier today. It was still warm, but the wind made for some sporty seas. Tomorrow should be a little nicer. Looking at my records we are now officially down on our numbers from this date last year. We need to step it up. We have not been able to get on a role like we did last year. Last year started out great. We had great fishing down here, great fishing back home, did well in some tournaments, had great fishing in Venezuela, but we have not been able to find our rythm yet this season. Hopefully we will get it soon. Fin can't stand knowing that Jeff or Arch have better days than him. Plus my competitive side wants to catch more than them anyway. We will see what tomorrow brings. One day I won't be as tired and will post more pictures.

Fresh Bait

We fished again today. Decent fishing. We ended up catching 10. The weather was good. It was windy this morning but got better as the day went on. This was our group's last day with us. Tommorow Joe Perez is fishing with us. I gave my laundry to one of the local boys this morning to take in for me when they opened. When I picked it up tonight I found that my darks were dirtier now than when I took them in this morning. So I had to take some back to get re-washed. It's nice you can take your clothes in in the morning and pick them up in the evening and they smell good, and they are folded. Tonight was also the first time we got fresh bait. Which is good because we desperately needed it. There is a local guy named Tony who catches the best ballyhoo. Tony has not caught bait for us in a couple of years. We have had to get it from other guys whos bait is not nearly as good. Tony always takes care of us also. When I get in from fishing tomorrow I will have 200 baits sitting in my cooler on the dock. Fresh bait lasts so much longer and looks so much better. You do not realize how pretty a ballyhoo is until you have seen a freshly caught one. So far this season I have on average been going through 75 circle hook baits a day, plus the baits for my 2 dredges and 2 teasers. Ton's of rigging. It's all part of the game. Too tired, possibly some pictures tomorrow.

Mucho Pez Vela

Good day of fishing today. Had a great percentage. Had Bob DeGabriel fishing with us. Had a somewhat slow morning, but the afternoon more than made up for it. Ended up with 18 for today. Lost a double at the end of the day that would have given us 20. Oh well gives us something to look forward to tomorrow. The weather was great today, actually it was hot as crap. Had to break out my sombrero today to block the sun. Pictures to come later. Im tired and going to bed. Congratulations to Kaitlin and Brian on their new edition. Welcome to this world Gant Fincher.
